Saturday at Sand Rock
Published October 18th, 2004 in Rock ClimbingWe went to Sand Rock late on Friday and spent the night and Saturday there. As mentioned previously, I was excited about trying Jaws again. I climbed it successfully Friday night. It is a short, pumpy climb, and topping out felt great.
Montie and I set up climbs for everyone on Saturday. I forgot to lock one ‘biner that the rope went through, and it got pushed open slightly by the rock. It was backed up by another carabiner, the gates were opposed and it would have almost certainly closed under load — in short, not dangerous. However, Kristen, who climbed the route first, understandbly had a bit of a fright when she saw it. I felt terrible for scaring her and for forgetting to lock the carabiner. It was a good reminder to triple check everything.
